Healthy Homemade Banana Brownies

Cook Time 25 minutes
Servings: 2
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 2 large ripe bananas
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup oat flour or blended rolled oats
  • ¼ cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup dark chocolate chips optional

Method

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Pan
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it. This prevents the brownies from sticking and makes them easier to remove after baking.
Step 2: Mash the Bananas
  1. Place the ripe bananas in a mixing bowl and mash them thoroughly with a fork until smooth. A few small lumps are fine, but the mixture should mostly resemble a thick puree.
Step 3: Mix the Wet Ingredients
  1. Add the eggs, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract to the mashed bananas. Whisk everything together until the mixture becomes smooth and well combined.
Step 4: Add the Dry Ingredients
  1. Stir in the cocoa powder, oat flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix gently until a thick brownie batter forms. Avoid overmixing, which can make the brownies dense.
Step 5: Fold in Chocolate Chips
  1. If you’re using dark chocolate chips, fold them into the batter at this stage. They will melt during baking and add extra chocolate flavor to the brownies.
Step 6: Pour and Spread the Batter
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly with a spatula so the brownies bake uniformly.
Step 7: Bake the Brownies
  1. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs.
Step 8: Cool Before Slicing
  1. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares. This helps them firm up and keeps them from falling apart.
